Preparing for A Marathon Overseas – What You Need to Know

Preparing for an overseas marathon can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. You need to pack your things thoroughly and think ahead. For example, you need to pack a first aid kit just in case of an injury or accident and to pack ahead can be the best thing to boost your confidence. Packing ahead also means you will have one less thing to worry about when it comes to the last day before you leave. Remember to pack something that represents your country, city, and team. Remember, that your primary objective is to have a clear head, before leaving and these simple steps will help you both prepare and win.

Don’t Hustle

The key to getting your body adapted to your routine is not suddenly to rush your body into a full-fledged activity. Instead, give your body a warning like light stretching and warming up. You should start a week before your actual race, so you start small and gradually increase, your additional warm-up sessions. By the time you come to the day of the competition, your body would be comfortable with the marathon.

Inner Peace

Meditating or just merely closing your eyes and clearing your head can help more than you think. The peace you get will help in curbing the panic or any sudden freezes. It will help you not get exhausted quickly. You should learn to take small breaths, so you don’t completely relax your body with every breath you inhale. You should consider seeing a coach who can help your breathing pattern and help with light meditating poses. After the meditation, you should realize that your blood pressure will be regularized or sometimes low. Therefore, following it up with some basic stretches and a sauna will help.

Some toiletry essentials are essential only for marathon runners apart from the basics. Take your usual toiletries such as toothbrush paste, earbuds, and floss. Any antiperspirant for your foot before you wear your socks will be a good addition too. The foremost thing to pack is an ice and heat pack so you can recover from injuries quickly.  Make sure that the medicines you pack are safe to take when you run a marathon and get alternative ones to the medications that would make you drowsy. Also, ensure that the drugs do not consist any steroids in them as they can cause serious havoc to your reputation if tested.

Back-Up Diet

It is good to make a list of places that you can eat at, where it is healthy and well reputed before you go abroad. It can be an excellent activity to do on the plane too. It is crucial to eat a lite and healthy meal before you set out on your marathon as you don’t want to carry any dead weight. There is a specific list of foods to avoid before you run a marathon. Grains, legumes, fruit, and vegetables that are high in fiber can cause gastrointestinal distress or diarrhea. Even though they are excellent food for runners to eat generally, they might cause some digestive issues with their stomach. It’s probably good to expel these foods from your diet if you have a run the next day.
